Treena Kantha (Multi)

The Treena is one of that special breed of kantha where a patchwork of colour reigns — perfect for all nooks & crannies. Here both sides have a lovely collection of hues — one leaning pink with orange, the other more teal. There are ample photos which hope to describe pictorially far better than words.

We hand select all our kantha in Jaipur. As with all vintage kantha, there may be signs of wear, those beautiful wrinkles that accompany a life well lived, but we ensure all our choices are long-lasting pieces for the English home.

Gwen Kantha (Red, Blue & Beige)

The Gwen is distinguished, character-filled, and warm — slim navy & red stripes on a beige background. Reminiscent of what might be found strewn across a roughened Windsor chair in the pages of an interiors magazine — a photo shoot in that retro 1970s finish. Perhaps in a kitchen with a working Inglenook where earthenware jugs line up across the top. Or across the end of a bed with mismatched patterned bedding and a cricket table serving by bedside. She will bring that special dignity with her wherever she calls home.

We hand select all our kantha in Jaipur. As with all vintage kantha, there may be signs of wear, those beautiful wrinkles that come with time, but we ensure all our choices are long-lasting pieces for the English home. The Gwen is in excellent shape.

Jesse Kantha (Blue & Off-White)

The Jesse Kantha; blue dots on an off-white background, with a contrast coral block print border. Yes, we know she’s not our typical pick (!) but she’s just so lovable we couldn’t resist. Of larger size (please see Details tab below) and with a reverse of boisterous floral design and colour, Jesse is a big dose of originality and fun.

Trixie Kantha (Multi)

The Trixie Kantha is an unusual selection for us at shenouk. Patchwork — so typical of many traditional kantha — here is captivating and dreamily so. A perfect melange of lovely colour, easy design, and the warmth we all crave. Reds, purples, golds, wonderful worn yet perfectly sturdy. The reverse a muted blend of off-white and faded blues.

All our kantha are hand selected on visits to the Pink City, Jaipur. The primary criteria is “would we want this little lovely in our own home”. All vintage kantha are unique finds and hold signs of character found in a life well lived — with a full life yet to come.

Ulrika Lampshade in Caribbean

The Ulrika, one of shenouk’s debut original designs, is sheer block printed loveliness. The diamond pattern was pulled from a really exquisite antique textile–it makes an impact yet is perfectly easy on the eye. Adds that “texture” to a room interior designers always refer to, without interfering with other well laid plans.

Rory (II) Blanket/Rug (Red, White & Blue)

The Rory is beautiful in its simplicity. Soft blue & red against a white background in a delicate stripe pattern. More robust in fabric, it can serve as a harder-wearing blanket (across the bottom of a bed, back of a couch..) but is durable enough to serve as a rug underfoot. In our experience, it is extremely rare to find such textiles with white backgrounds absent noticeable blemishes — the Rory is pristine.

There are two Rory options (I & II) which can be purchased separately or used together.

We hand-select all our textiles and choose them for all-over design, beautiful colour combinations and patterns perfect for our English homes.

Gaggi Kantha

All our kantha are hand-selected in Jaipur as textiles worthy of welcoming into our own homes. It’s a time-consuming task, there are hundreds to choose from, it’s normally quite dusty (!), many are stained, others too flamboyant [for us], still others we’re not quite sure about on first glance. The Gaggi Kantha immediately made it to the “yes” pile.

She’s humble, charming, and warm. The front a meld of reddish-pink (or pinkish-red?) and white checkerboard design offset by unexpectedly wonderful blue floral motifs. The back is a hodge-podge of colour and pattern, so typical of many kantha, which coordinates with the front–albeit with a very different vibe!

All kantha are wonderful additions to our surroundings, adding character and texture to whatever room they join. Among these, the Gaggi is special.

Indi Kantha (Blue)

Our Indi Kantha is a wonderful find. A calm, full blue field is offset by embroidery in white — and an area of subtle gold embroidery for a delicate and unique addition. Indi’s easy palette and dimensions (see details tab) make her extremely versatile.

The reverse, a very pale yellow with extremely subtle glimpses through of inner-layer designs. Touches of barely-there gold stripes provides a lovely offset while remaining suitably discreet.

Gita Tissue Box Cover in Denim

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the difference.

Our cotton tissue box covers are adorned in beautiful block print and contrast-edged for subtle character. As gorgeous as they are useful, they are also happily a fraction of the cost of heavy alternatives & just as long-lasting.

Here, the classic Indian block print design Gita in Denim blue is accompanied by a Berry pink trim. Lovely.
